a little tabletop soccer setup
I saw this advertized on instagram and thought “I could make that”, and I did! It’s a little smaller than the “official” one (https://www.bakvoetbal.com/), mostly so that I could make the handles out of a single 4 foot length of dowel, and to accommodate the size of the laser cutter I was using (xtool s1). It’s also a better size for my young kids.
Materials:
- 1/2" diameter dowel (48" long), $2
- 1/8" hardboard (HDF) (approximately 4 sq ft of material off of a $15 4’x8’ board, so about another $2)
- some wood glue
- a marble for the ball
Total material cost, about $4
Rough dimensions: 20"x12"
Access to a laser cutter: I’m a member of a local makerspace for $50/mo, but our local public library also has a laser cutter you can use for free.
If I were to make this again, I would probably do some box jointing instead of relying on wood glue for everything, but it wasn’t a huge deal.
Laser cut info: On the Xtool S1, I used 100% power, 10mm/s cutting speed, and it did a great job. Took maybe 30 minutes of total cutting time across 3 separate cuts (so accommodate the working area of the xtool).
For the glue up: binder clips for the double-walls, and gravity for everything else. I haven’t glued the “player pieces” onto the dowels yet as they’re snug enough to try out, but they do get shifted around a bit so I’ll probably glue them soon. I made the side slots such that you can remove the dowels for easier storage.
